MedShare’s annual fundraising gala celebrated the sights and sounds from around the world. We honored Dikembe Mutombo with the 2016 MedShare Humanitarian Award, heard from Oda Foundation Founder John Christopher, and raised funds to support our mission to improve the quality of life of people and our planet.
Kaleidoscope was held on August 13th at The Foundry at Puritan Mill. We presented the 2016 MedShare Humanitarian Award to Dikembe Mutombo and heard his amazing story. He spoke about the hospital he established in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the necessity to combat preventable diseases in impoverished areas, the threat of cervical cancer for women all over Africa, and reminded us of our personal responsibility to give back to communities in need. Oda Foundation founder John Christopher also shared stories about his healthcare post in one of the most underserved areas of Nepal.
International cuisine was provided by Affairs to Remember and entertainment featured Witold Tudloski & The A-Town A-List. Guests enjoyed a fashion show presented by designer Issa Soroga, played a life-sized Operation game, and threw darts at balloons for prizes. We held both a silent and live auction featuring a trip for two to Napa Valley, a one-week stay at a villa on Lake Atitlan, a white tail hunting experience, and an African safari. The highlight of the night was the final round of live auction fundraising in which guests competed to be the last bidder of the night. A huge thanks to all of the people who worked so hard to make it an unforgettable event. The evening would not have been possible without our generous sponsors, dedicated Southeast Council, fantastic volunteers, incredible speakers, and wonderful guests.
