MedShare Collaboration Continues to Enhance Pediatric Cardiac Care
MedShare Completes Comprehensive Biomedical Equipment Tech Training in Nigeria
The Federal Medical Center Ebute Metta, Nigeria, has achieved remarkable advancements in pediatric cardiac care, thanks in part to the donation of a Philips iU22 ultrasound machine and biomedical training and support facilitated through the Safe Birth Initiative (SBI), a collaborative partnership between MedShare and Coca-Cola Nigeria.
Previously, pediatric patients with cardiovascular complications were often referred to other hospitals, resulting in delayed treatment and, tragically, loss of life. The arrival of the Philips iU22 ultrasound machine has helped transform the landscape of maternal and child health, enabling timely and effective diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions.
Key Highlights Included:
- The Philips iU22 ultrasound machine is the only pediatric cardiac diagnostic tool at Federal Medical Center Ebute Metta.
- MedShare air-freighted the machine from Atlanta to ensure swift delivery.
- Professional installations and training were conducted by MedShare’s Director of Biomedical Engineering Training and Technical Services, Eben Amstrong. Equipment training centered around the Philips iU22 ultrasound machine, baby incubators, anesthesia machines, phototherapy lights, patient monitors, fetal monitors, electrosurgical units, delivery beds, operation lamps and Resuscitaire radiant warmers.
Dr. Nnenna Kalu, Pediatric Cardiologist, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Philips, Coca-Cola Nigeria and MedShare, saying, “Thank you for enhancing our ability to provide quality care to pediatric patients.”
This collaborative effort demonstrates the power of partnership in improving healthcare outcomes in marginalized communities around the world.
