MedShare Completes Critical Biomedical Equipment Training for New Primary Care Facility in Dominican Republic
When San Juan de la Maguana, a small town located in the mountains of the Dominican Republic, lost its primary healthcare facility to the floods resulting from Hurricane George, Solid Rock International (SRI), a nonprofit organization focused on transforming healthcare in the Dominican Republic, stepped in. Determined to create a state-of-the-art medical facility to exponentially increase the community’s access to care, SRI, in cooperation with Dominican non-profit partner ACPSI (The Christian Association for the Promotion of Integral Health), approached MedShare to help fulfill its mission.
The result was a sparkling new 56-bed, 46,000 square-foot facility which opened to the public in 2023 and is projected to provide care for over 100,000 patients annually. [View video of the facility]
MedShare was honored to work with SRI on the construction of the new hospital by providing consultive services around building design and equipment procurement in addition to over $500,000 in state-of-the-art equipment and supplies for the new hospital – everything from beds and exam tables to operating room equipment and furniture. What’s more MedShare’s commitment ensured that the clinic received the most up-to-date equipment and extensive training on the proper use and maintenance of the equipment to ensure sustainability.
Last month, MedShare’s Eben Armstrong, Director of Biomedical Training & Technical Services, conducted an extensive training workshop at the hospital, providing a diverse group of professionals the opportunity to strengthen their skills and competencies in the handling of advanced biomedical equipment.
The ongoing training provides both a valuable learning experience for participants and an opportunity to continue to strengthen the collaboration between our organizations in our mission to improve access to healthcare in the region.
