MedShare and Love for Peru Foundation: A Lifesaving Partnership
Love for Peru medical professionals and support volunteers work with low-income populations — bringing healthcare to remote areas of Peru lacking access to specialized medical care
MedShare International is proud to announce our partnership with the Love for Peru Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing medical, educational, infrastructure, and community development services to underserved populations in Peru. Since its inception in 2000, Love for Peru has made an incredible impact, touching the lives of thousands in need, and we are thrilled to support their mission.
Founded in Pensacola, FL, Love for Peru operates on a volunteer and donation-based model, ensuring that 100% of all funding is directed towards their critical programs. Their work is extensive and impactful—over 1,500 volunteers have joined 46 mission teams to travel to Peru, providing essential medical care, building rehabilitation centers for the physically disabled, and offering vocational and educational services to children from low-income families. These efforts have led to the construction of 800 homes, 200 latrines, 5 community centers, and 3 libraries. In addition, Love for Peru has provided essential surgeries to over 7,000 people and established three rehabilitation centers for those with physical disabilities in underserved communities.
Healthcare in Peru, particularly in rural areas like Cusco and the Sacred Valley, remains a major challenge. Many communities still face limited access to essential medical care, with healthcare infrastructure in critical need of support. This is especially true for marginalized populations, who often lack access to specialized services and advanced medical treatments. As the country continues to work toward improving its healthcare system, partnerships like the one between MedShare and Love for Peru become crucial to bridging the gap and ensuring that underserved populations have access to the life-saving resources they need.
The partnership began in October 2024, when Love for Peru visited MedShare’s Decatur campus to discuss a potential collaboration. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to support the expansion of Vidawasi Hospital in the Sacred Valley region. This 36-bed hospital, still under construction, will provide primary and preventative medical care, as well as pediatric surgery and long-term patient care on its remaining floors. MedShare’s role in the partnership is to supply life-saving medical supplies and equipment as part of to the hospital’s expansion, and to increase capacity through hands-on training on the biomedical equipment being provided.
The Love for Peru Foundation’s efforts have already made an incredible difference in the lives of those in need, and this partnership with MedShare will help take that impact even further. By combining our strengths and resources, we can help ensure that more people in Peru have access to the healthcare and resources they need to thrive. This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long and impactful partnership that brings hope and healing to many more communities in Peru.
