Continuing to Respond to the Humanitarian Emergency throughout the Southeast

Hurricane Helene took a devastating toll on nearby communities in western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. And Hurricane Milton added to the destruction as it cut a swath across areas of central Florida already ravaged by Helene. Given the proximity and widespread impact of the storms, MedShare accelerated the activation of our disaster relief protocol to assist those affected by the catastrophic events. Within days, we were collaborating with local partners to distribute hygiene kits and medical supplies through relief organizations and churches in the region and we continue to coordinate with affected medical facilities to help ensure they receive the necessary supplies and equipment they need to continue to operate effectively.

Communities Rally to Support Their Own
In Marshall, North Carolina, a charming small town nestled along the French Broad River, floodwaters from Hurricane Helene swept away homes and local businesses — leaving behind blocks of damaged, mud-filled buildings and streets. The community faces a long wait to fully understand the extent of the damage and tragic loss of life. Yet, they remain resolute in their commitment to support those affected. Beacon of Hope, a community organization focused on providing support and resources to local individuals and families in need, has emerged as a crucial lifeline. Having weathered the worst of the storm, they have transformed their warehouse facility into an emergency relief center to receive and distribute hurricane relief supplies. Kudos to volunteer Matthew Rinoldo, who visited MedShare to help stock the center with as many masks, gloves and goggles as he could pack into his vehicle to assist with the clean-up efforts.

Clinics Helping Clinics Deliver Medical Aid
Several more pallets of hygiene kits and medical supplies were delivered to western North Carolina last week thanks to Troup Cares, an essential charitable clinic in LaGrange, Georgia, and member of the Georgia Charitable Care Network. With 45 volunteer practitioners who donate their time and talents on a no-fee basis, the clinic is a lifeline for the uninsured and under-insured adult residents of Troup County. MedShare is proud to support Troup Cares and their medical mission to assist those severely impacted by Hurricane Helene.

MedShare will closely monitor the situation and, as community needs continue to become clearer, we will be there to support the long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts in communities throughout the Southeast.
