John Penninger

Director of Marketing & Communications

John brings over 35 years of advertising, marketing and communications leadership, with a primary focus on brand strategy and communications. For the previous 18 years, John worked exclusively with innovative non-profit organizations.

Prior to joining MedShare, John served as Senior Director of Resource Development and Marketing for Open Hand Atlanta, an organization that prepares, packs and delivers over 5,500 medically tailored meals each day for at-risk individuals living with debilitating chronic disease across 21 metro and rural Georgia counties. At Open Hand, John led marketing, fundraising and strategic planning efforts as the organization set its sights on statewide expansion in order to serve more rural areas of Georgia with extremely limited or no access to healthcare or medically tailored nutrition.

Previously, John was Partner/Creative Director for TGNT Brand Activation, an agency dedicated to the creation of personalized relationships between brands and stakeholders. During that time John worked with clients such as the CDC Foundation, Colorado Health Foundation, Emory Vaccine Center, Laguna Playhouse, San Jose Repertory Theatre, Dallas Theatre Center, Open Hand Atlanta, The Coca-Cola Company and Bacardi Global Brands.

John began his career in the advertising sector as a copywriter/producer after graduating from the Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communication at the University of Georgia with an AB in Journalism/Advertising, subsequently working with agencies such as J. Walter Thompson, Catspaw Productions and Group 3Hree Advertising in Atlanta and Miami.

John is an officer on the board of the Winding Stair Foundation, enjoys time at his cabin in the North Carolina mountains and currently resides in midtown Atlanta.
