Operation Rainbow — Bringing Healing and Hope to Honduras and Beyond
MedShare has been equipping Operation Rainbow with lifesaving medical supplies for well over a decade
At MedShare, our mission is to improve the quality of life for people and our planet by sourcing and delivering surplus medical supplies and equipment to communities in need around the world. That mission is only possible through the work of our dedicated partners—like Operation Rainbow, a long-standing nonprofit doing extraordinary work to increase access to orthopedic care for children and families in underserved regions.

Founded in 1978, Operation Rainbow is a volunteer-driven organization committed to providing free orthopedic surgeries and non-surgical care to indigent children and young adults across the globe. With a network of over 1,000 self-funded volunteers—including surgeons, nurses, techs, and interpreters—Operation Rainbow completes 12–14 medical missions each year, reaching deep into communities that might otherwise go without care.
Spotlight on Honduras: Delivering Hope, One Surgery at a Time
In their most recent medical mission to Honduras, Operation Rainbow’s impact was felt profoundly. Supported by medical donations and supplies from MedShare, the mission team provided life-changing orthopedic surgeries and non-surgical treatments to hundreds of patients, many of them children suffering from congenital deformities or traumatic injuries.
The Honduras mission, like many before it, followed Operation Rainbow’s powerful model:
- 45–65 orthopedic surgeries performed in a single week
- 200–300 patients treated through non-surgical interventions, including physical therapy, pain management, and orthopedic evaluations
- Training and mentorship provided to local medical professionals to build long-term capacity and ensure sustained care in the region

This recent trip to Honduras is part of a long-standing commitment from Operation Rainbow, which frequently returns to the country alongside other core locations like Guatemala, Mexico, Haiti, and Ecuador.
The missions in Honduras specifically address some of the country’s most pressing orthopedic challenges—from untreated trauma injuries to complex congenital limb conditions.
A Shared Vision: MedShare + Operation Rainbow
MedShare is proud to support Operation Rainbow’s missions by supplying critically needed surgical tools, orthopedic equipment, and consumables—resources that empower medical volunteers to perform complex procedures and offer comprehensive care.
We feel fortunate to have been able to contribute to Operation Rainbow’s humanitarian impact:
- Thousands of underserved patients served each year
- Over 18,000 surgeries delivered across 19 countries
- More than $85 million in donated medical care provided over the past 46 years
Beyond the numbers, what stands out most is the organization’s unwavering focus on education and sustainability. Every mission includes training for local doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, and technicians, creating a ripple effect that improves health outcomes long after the mission ends.
Looking Forward
Operation Rainbow’s work in Honduras—and across Latin America, Africa, and India—epitomizes what it means to provide healing beyond borders. MedShare is honored to stand beside them as they continue to expand access to life-changing orthopedic care worldwide.
Together, we are not just delivering supplies—we’re delivering hope, dignity, and opportunity for a healthier tomorrow.
