MedShare Delivers Critical Medical Aid to Support Growing Health Needs in Rural Ghana

MedShare International has once again extended its global impact with the delivery of a 40-foot container filled with essential medical supplies and equipment to the Aworowa Community Health Center in rural Ghana. This shipment marks MedShare’s second major donation to the Wenchi region, continuing a decades-long commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in underserved communities across Ghana.

Aworowa Community Health Center, located in the Bono Region of central Ghana, is a lifeline for approximately 12,000 residents in and around the village of Aworowa. The facility, sponsored by Wenchi Methodist Hospital, operates with limited resources: a small but dedicated staff of one physician, eight nurses, and just 10 inpatient beds. The region faces a wide range of health challenges including yellow fever, malaria, hypertension, diabetes, anemia, and maternal and child health issues such as prenatal and postnatal care.

Thanks to this latest shipment, the clinic is now poised to expand its capabilities, particularly in labor and delivery services—a vital addition for women in the area who previously had little or no access to safe childbirth care.

Behind this effort is a strong partnership and shared mission. John Munson, founder of Mission in Action, has been a tireless advocate for health equity in Ghana. Through his work organizing mission trips to the Wenchi region with a network of Methodist churches in Wisconsin, Munson played a pivotal role in both the first and second shipments to the area, as did the World Outreach Fund, which generously covered the shipping and administrative costs associated with both shipments. The first container brought desperately needed equipment to Wenchi Methodist Hospital; this latest shipment builds on that success, reaching deeper into the community to strengthen primary care at the grassroots level.

“Our goal at MedShare has always been to bridge the gap in access to medical care for vulnerable populations,” said Jason Chernock, Director of Programs & Partnerships at MedShare. “We don’t just deliver supplies—we ensure those supplies are needed, functional, and sustainable. Every shipment reflects detailed collaboration with charitable healthcare providers on the ground.”

This commitment to sustainability includes preparing the equipment to match local conditions, ensuring all items are in working order, and providing training to local clinicians and technicians to ensure long-term usability.

As the Aworowa clinic expands its service offerings, MedShare’s latest donation will serve as a cornerstone of this transformation. For many families in the region, it means the difference between facing a healthcare crisis alone—or receiving timely, competent care close to home.
