Improving the quality of life of people and our planet

Medical Product Donations

Every year, because of various federal regulations, U.S. hospitals discard nearly 6 million tons of surplus medical supplies and equipment.  MedShare's recovery efforts save thousands of pounds of these surplus supplies and equipment from landfills and incinerators, helping protect the environment here at home.

In 2014, MedShare recovered 2.345 million lbs. of medical supplies, equipment, furniture, and beds through our partnerships with supply manufacturers, distributors, health care partners, and individuals supporting our three U.S. regional offices.

We accept donations of unused, unexpired medical surplus supplies and used biomedical equipment through our hospital recovery program and corporate product donations.

Our Hospital Recovery Program

MedShare works with hospitals in the Atlanta, San Francisco Bay and New York City metropolitan areas  to set up recovery programs, so  hospital staff can efficiently recycle their surplus medical supplies. The program includes:

  • In-Service training
  • Donation bins for product (pictured above)
  • Regular pick-up service of donated supplies

Corporate Product Donations

A large portion of MedShare's medical products come from medical manufacturers and distributors. We often recover products that:

  • Have cosmetically-damaged packaging
  • Production overages
  • Usable returned products
  • New products that a company wishes to donate to charity
