Building Hope in Haiti

La Providence, the only hospital in Gonaïves, Haiti, a city with more than 300,000 inhabitants, was devastated by Hurricane Jeanne in 2004. Since the storm hit, the hospital buildings have been deteriorating, power has been unpredictable, and government funding has been unreliable. [read more]

A 'Successful Venture': The MedShare, Emory Healthcare and Nigerian Collaboration

During 2007, MedShare and Emory Healthcare expanded their long-term partnership, taking the typical role of a hospital – a source of medical supplies and equipment – one step further. Emory Healthcare provided the financial sponsorship for a forty-foot MedShare container, demonstrating once again its sincere commitment to improve health, conserve environmental resources, and help the global community. Heartbreak and Hope in Kenya

MedShare Shipment Takes Flight to Angola

The term shipping usually conjures an image of a boat on the water. And that is how MedShare containers filled with much-needed medical supplies and equipment typically reach their destinations – by ship. Next month, however, MedShare will send a 40-foot container to the Republic of Angola by airplane. [read more]

Spotlight On: MedShare and CURE International in Afghanistan

In 2005, CURE established a 115-bed hospital and family clinic in Kabul, Afghanistan. In order to obtain the enormous amount of supplies and equipment needed to outfit a hospital this size, CURE turned to MedShare. [read more]

Season of Hope: Special Edition

Season of Hope, MedShare's unique year-end giving campaign, allows donors to purchase medical items in the name of an honoree. These items will be sent overseas to a needy institution. Following the purchase, MedShare will send a gift card to the honoree to commemorate the gift. [read more]

Not Your Average High School Road Trip

Spotlight On: Yemage Medical Center in Harar, Ethiopia
July 2007
In 1997, when Sebri Omer returned to visit his family and homeland in Harar, Ethiopia after 20 years, he was a successful small business owner and self-made man who lived in metro-Atlanta with his wife and four children. Visiting a cousin in Harar's antiquated public hospital changed his life and began this story. [read more]

Spotlight On: Restore

It takes the hearts and hands of many volunteers to sort and organize the tons of surplus medical equipment and supplies that MedShare collects, catalogs, and ships to clinics and hospitals in economically developing countries. One very devoted group of volunteers is organized by the Restore Neurobehavioral Center, which is based in Roswell, Georgia (US). [read more]

Spotlight On: The Democratic Republic of Congo

"We must be hopeful," says Dr. Albert Mutombo Tshipeta, a pediatrician from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), when asked about his thoughts on the future of his country. Dr. Tshipeta works at Centre Hospitalier in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC, where hope is sometimes in as short supply as medical supplies and equipment. [read more]
