On Friday, April 18, H.E. Josefina Pitra Diakité, the Ambassador from the Republic of Angola to the U.S., toured MedShare’s distribution center and gave a presentation to MedShare staff members and guests at Emory Crawford Long Hospital. MedShare recently initiated a partnership with Ambassador Diakité, the Ministry of Health in Angola, Boeing, and TAAG Angola Airlines in order to send its first forty-foot container of medical supplies and equipment by plane, rather than by ship.
In her remarks, Ambassador Diakité addressed the many problems plaguing the health care system in Angola and the plans that the government has developed to confront them. Because years of civil war damaged the country’s health system infrastructure and sanitation system, the government now faces the enormous task of rehabilitation and development. A forty-foot container from MedShare represents a meaningful improvement, as it will allow many people to have access to a quality of medical care which would otherwise be unavailable.
“My tour of MedShare gave me the chance to see the great work that MedShare and its partners are doing,” said Ambassador Diakité. She expressed her appreciation for the forty-foot container to Angola and said her country will face the future with “courage and confidence.”
