SAN LEANDRO, Calif. – In appreciation of its dedicated volunteers, MedShare will host its annual volunteer appreciation event and luncheon on Saturday, May 1 from noon-2 p.m.
“Without our volunteers, MedShare could not complete its mission of sending life-saving medical supplies to those in need around the world. The purpose of this event is to shine a light on their important work and say thanks for their commitment and support to MedShare,” said Chuck Haupt, Executive Director, MedShare Western Region.
An estimated 80 volunteers are expected to attend the event, which includes an international luncheon with foods from some of the countries MedShare has shipped medical aid, such as Vietnam, El Salvador, Ethiopia and the Philippines.
There will also be an award ceremony to recognize those who have served 50 hours or more in the past 12 months. Hayward resident, John Morton, will receive the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award having given more than 500 hours of volunteer service. JoAnna Hansen-Morton and Susan Dyer of San Leandro will receive Silver Presidential Service Awards for more than 250 hours of service to MedShare. An additional 11 volunteers will receive Bronze Presidential Service Awards for volunteering more than 100 hours. MedShare will also be awarding California’s Governor and First Lady Service Awards to 32 volunteers that have volunteered for 50 hours or more.
Since beginning operations in October 2008, MedShare Western Region has had 3,355 volunteers donate almost 20,000 hours to sort and pack over 180 tons of recovered medical supplies to be sent to those in need.
MedShare’s Volunteer Appreciation Event will be held Saturday, May 1 from noon-2 p.m. at 2937 Alvarado St., San Leandro, Calif. 94577.
