Meet Volunteer Eva Trepanier

September 02, 2009
Meet "People Lover", Eva Trepanier. She has been volunteering at MedShare for three years, and at 92 years old, she is not planning on slowing down anytime soon.

Name: Eva M. Trepanier

Age and Occupation: 92, Retired Mortgage Banker and Government Civilian Officer

Hometown: Lived all over, but been in Georgia for 29 years

Please describe yourself in one sentence. I am a “People” person. I enjoy being with people and being active in volunteer work.

Tell me something interesting about you that not many people know. I was born in Massachusetts and could only speak Italian until I started school at age 5. I also know some French, because my husband was of French descent. The happiest time of my life was when I got married. My husband and I met when we were 15 and married at 25 in 1943. He was a bombardier in the Air Force and fought in WWII. We were only married for seven years, and he was killed in a plane crash in 1950. I never remarried, because I’ve always said that once you’ve found pure gold, you don’t want to settle for brass and Tripp was my pure gold.

When did you first hear about MedShare? I first heard about MedShare from Mr. and Mrs. Jack Horvath and have been volunteering with the Wednesday volunteer group for several years.

How would you describe your volunteer experience at MedShare?
Uplifting, fulfilling and satisfying. I just love interacting with people..they fascinate me, even watching people…I could watch people for hours. The group of people that I volunteer with at MedShare are like a part of my extended family. I have been through a lot in my life, and my faith and the people placed in my life have what have gotten me through and given me sense of fulfillment.

How long have you been volunteering at MedShare? Every Wednesday morning for 3 years.
What inspired you to get involved? Pat Horvath told me about the mission at MedShare, and the thought of helping people all over the world made me want to get involved.

What is it that motivates you to keep volunteering at MedShare?
The people that work and volunteer at MedShare and knowing that I’m doing good for people who really need it.

What has been your favorite MedShare moment or story during your time serving with us?
I can’t really pinpoint one specific moment, but overall, when I see the unbelievable amount of medical materials that are collected by MedShare and I get to have a hand in helping those materials get to people in countries who do not have the necessary medical supplies to sustain their lives. I’m very proud of our country for taking what we’ve been blessed with and helping those in need in 3rd world countries.
