MedShare ended July and started off August with a bang! We closed out the month of July on Friday with a shipment to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Kenya. This marked our month end goal of eight container shipments in July!

On Wednesday, August 5, MedShare picked up a mobile CT scanner to ship to Zimbabwe. The scanner was donated by Catalina Imaging, a diagnostic imaging company located outside Sacramento, and is the most substantial single medical equipment donation we have ever received!

“We at Catalina Imaging are very excited to be supporting MedShare in their global effort of providing life saving medical supplies and equipment to countries in need. Our beliefs and abilities were a great match for this project has come together,” said Ron Wright, CEO of Catalina Imaging.

Catalina Imaging has been providing diagnostic imaging equipment to hospitals and imaging centers throughout the United States specializing in Mobile Imaging for 17 years.  They expressed having worked with other nonprofit organizations without success, but found MedShare to be an expert in logistics and developing good relationships with other companies and governments.

The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation sponsored the funds for the scanner to go to Zimbabwe, where currently there is only one working CT scanner in the country’s public health system. With this being a mobile unit, it will be able to reach patients who have extremely limited access to healthcare.

“We are very thankful to Catalina Imaging for this innovative medical equipment donation. In a country like Zimbabwe, this kind of technology will make remarkable strides towards diagnosing important medical conditions,” said Chuck Haupt, Executive Director of MedShare Western Region.

We look forward to seeing the impact that this mobile CT scanner will make on healthcare for the people of Zimbabwe.
