MedShare Receives Prestigious Awards

May 08, 2012

MedShare was recently selected to receive Acterra’s 2012 Business Environmental Award! Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards are one of the San Francisco Bay area’s oldest and most prestigious environment recognition programs, and we’re honored to be a part of it.
Much of the esteemed nature of the award is due to its rigorous application and judging process. “Our awardees must demonstrate their environmental commitment and achievements through a careful vetting process,” states Committee Chair Laura Teksler. “In addition to a thorough written application, the top contenders must demonstrate their programs’ merits firsthand to the judges during a visit to the applicants’ facilities. By the time they are selected to receive our award, they have truly proven that their programs are ‘setting the bar’ in corporate environmental leadership.”

In Northern California, there are more than 30 hospitals participating in MedShare’s innovative Hospital Recovery Program. These hospitals recognize the local environmental benefit that their contributions have, as well as the global impact they will have on people’s lives.
MedShare is being acknowledged for our efficient recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment that helps to improve the environment and healthcare for the medically underserved. As California’s first high-volume medical supply recycler, MedShare’s reuse program is changing the landscape of medical waste disposal in the State. Our ground-breaking efforts are being recognized in the Environmental Innovation category.

In addition to the Business Environmental Awards, MedShare was recently named runner-up for the Lipman Family Prize, an award that spotlights the efforts of global organizations to create positive, sustainable solutions to significant social and economic challenges. The award’s ultimate goal is to spread the global lessons found in local success. Nearly 300 organizations from 33 nations submitted entries for the award, and MedShare was honored to be chosen as one of three finalists. The Lipman Family Prize is overseen by the University of Pennsylvania through the Wharton School, and is made possible by gifts from Wharton alumni Barry R. Lipman and his wife, Marie. As a finalist, MedShare will thrive from unprecedented synergistic opportunities with Penn and Wharton, including complimentary executive education opportunities for MedShare staff.
