In our 15th year of bridging the gap between surplus and need, our generous donors have made it possible for MedShare to send more than 950 ocean containers to 95 countries. Your contributions to our Annual Fund ensure that we will continue to work with recipients and strengthen healthcare systems around the world. Donations to the annual fund support shipments of supplies as well as our biomedical training program and MedTeam Stores in both our National and Western distribution centers.
On every container MedShare ships, we provide pieces of biomedical equipment that have been selected by the recipient hospital or clinic. All biomedical equipment is thoroughly inspected and tested by our qualified biomedical team. We have shipped such items as incubators, x-ray machines, exam tables, syringe pumps, anesthesia equipment, ultrasound machines, and blood gas analyzers. Such equipment is used for routine laboratory procedures, daily patient care and acquisition of information concerning patient conditions.
To ensure long-term impact for the equipment shipped, MedShare has developed a biomedical equipment training program. Annual Fund
dollars support this training program in order to ensure the maximum impact of all equipment donations. The biomedical training workshops allow on-site troubleshooting and provide knowledge to use, maintain and ensure the longevity of each item. As biomedical technicians are scarce in many developing countries, technicians from surrounding cities are invited to attend the sessions so that the expertise could be leveraged to train others. At the end of the program, all persons trained learn how to install, inspect, maintain, repair, and calibrate biomedical equipment and support systems to adhere to medical standard guidelines.
Another signature program of MedShare is the Medical Mission (MedTeam) Store within our regional distribution centers. These stores, operated through Annual Fund
dollars, provide teams of health care professionals and free/safety-net clinics with a unique source for low-cost, high-quality medical supplies. After completing an online application, medical teams as well as free/safety-net clinics are granted on-site access to MedShare’s inventory of surplus medical supplies recovered from local hospitals. Medical teams and free/safety-net clinic staff may then come to MedShare and select items from the MedTeam Store, which is restocked weekly. Additionally, teams may order larger quantities by choosing supplies through our online ordering system, also available to teams across the nation. Through the store, we are able to serve as a local resource for a wide variety of needs.
Your gift to the Annual Fund
also supports the unrestricted costs of operating our distribution centers, volunteer sort rooms, warehouses and management of donated products. The Annual Fund is critical to the operations of all of our programs. MedShare employs a staff of highly-competent and diverse individuals who hail from many different countries and can communicate fluently in five languages. MedShare cannot function without this support and we are so appreciative to all donors who invest in our work to serve those in need. Please invest in MedShare today and help us continue to serve recipients in need of critical healthcare delivery.
